SKU & Barcode Guard

Getting started

Scan your catalogue

Open SKU & Barcode Guard from Shopify Admin. An initial scan starts automatically when your catalogue fits your plan. If it exceeds the limit, choose a managed subset in Coverage before scanning. Scanning does not change your product identifiers.

Overview shows scan status and managed coverage. Issues lists missing, duplicate and invalid identifiers within that coverage. Filter by identifier, category or severity, and open a finding for details.

Preview and apply identifiers

  1. Open Bulk tools and choose SKU or Barcode.
  2. Choose an operation, then select the products or variants to include.
  3. Configure the template or internal prefix and generate a preview.
  4. Review the existing and proposed values, blocked rows and warnings. Previewing makes no product changes.
  5. For an available replacement operation, confirm the exact affected count to apply. Return to the batch for progress and downloadable results.

The app rechecks current Shopify values and skips known conflicts. Shopify does not provide an atomic compare-and-swap for these identifiers; an external edit can still occur between the final read and write.

Missing-only apply and undo are paused on every plan until Shopify supports atomic protection against concurrent edits. You can generate previews and make changes directly in Shopify. Explicit replacement operations remain available with the conflict checks described above.

Print labels

Growth and Scale include label printing. Choose variants and a label template in Labels. Load more pages if your selection is partial, review the print preview, and print at 100% scale without browser headers or footers. Test one sheet or label on your printer before a larger run.

Generated barcodes are internal identifiers, not GS1-issued UPC, EAN or GTIN numbers. For GS1 identifiers, use numbers allocated to your business and validate them before printing.

Plans and monitoring

Free covers up to 20 variants, Starter 500, Growth 1,000 and Scale 50,000. Free includes manual scans and 10 applied changes per month. Starter includes daily monitoring; Growth and Scale include webhook-driven checks and daily reconciliation. Check Issues in the app for findings; email delivery is not offered at launch.

Shopify hosts billing and plan changes. Choose a plan in Settings & plan usage. After upgrading, review Coverage to expand the managed subset. After downgrading, reconfirm coverage within the new limit before work resumes.

Common questions

Why are some products not covered?

Coverage reflects the variants selected within your plan limit. A healthy managed subset does not certify the rest of your catalogue.

Can I leave during a scan or bulk operation?

Yes. Jobs run in the background. Return to Activity or the same bulk batch to check progress. A failed operation can contain partial results; review those results before creating another operation.

How do I stop using the app?

Uninstall it in Shopify Admin. Uninstall stops new work and initiates asynchronous deletion of installation data. See the privacy policy for retention and deletion details.
